MSNBC Shake Up
September 8, 2008 — PC Fugitive
Did you hear the good news yet? MSNBC finally did the right thing (pun inten
ded) and fired Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as the anchors during political events.
Yeah! As everybody but the MSNBC big wigs knew, those two jokers were destroying whatever credibility MSNBC had. It was way past time they were removed from a position of reporting during any kind of political activity because they proved that they could not even try to be fair and balanced.
Their coverage of the Conventions was a farce. I would go to their channels for a minute or two and that was all I could take. It was so awful to watch Olbermann and Matthews try to outdo each other in their devotion to Obama and criticism of McCain. If a guest dared to disagree with them they would go after you tooth and nail with mean spirited sarcasm and abuse. Hell, they went after another MSNBC newsman who didn’t agree with their far left opinions. It was a disgrace to call this reporting and I am sure poor Tim Russert must be spinning in his grave.
While I am at it, I will also admit that I was disappointed with Fox’s coverage of the conventions, too. Sure they might be a bit to the right but they were a lot more fair and balanced than MSNBC. However, my complaint is that they talked too much! Instead of covering the speakers at the convention, the anchors on Fox would talk among themselves. I wanted to tell them to shut up so I could hear what was happening on the convention floor. Instead I simply changed the channel to CNN. I would then flip back and forth to hear their analysts afterwards.
Overall, Fox had the highest ratings during the Republican Convention while CNN was the ratings winner during the Democrat Convention. MSNBC trailed far behind both. The sad truth is if MSNBC’s ratings had been higher then we still might have to put up with Olbermann and Matthews. Luckily no one watched them so good riddance to Olbermann and Matthews as “news” anchors although they will still have their regular shows. So now MSNBC’s foray into having a news station that is “liberal” based has tanked just as every liberal radio station has done before it. You would think they would finally get the hint.

Matthews, and Olbermann are putzes. Their coverage was the most slanted I’ve ever witnessed, and they seemed proud of it, encouraged by it, and eager to do more. MSNBC should be ashamed, but they’re not — they ALL have the “thrill leg”. The American people don’t want a one-sided presentation, we don’t want Keith’s critical, pessimistic, partisan, close-minded, elitist, aggressive, half-truth stories filling our news shows. News has been sorely lacking on their channel for quite some time…it feels more like watching TMZ on Politics.
I also flipped to MSNBC (for the briefest of moments) during each of the conventions, but couldn’t take it for long. On NBC, the first night of the RNC, they showed Bush’s speech w/o any crowd noise. He would say a few things, crowd would roar, yet you’d hear total silence on NBC. Just a shot of Bush sitting at his desk in silence. ABC at least cut in the crowd noise…Maybe I was being too sensitive, but I would bet my life on the fact that Obama would never get that treatment. And, that’s a crock.

“While I am at it, I will also admit that I was disappointed with Fox’s coverage of the conventions, too. Sure they might be a bit to the right but they were a lot more fair and balanced than MSNBC. ”
A bit to the right? What the hell are you smoking? Fox news is fully on the right and always has been. Calling oneself “fair and balanced” does not make one so.
You are writing for a blog, a place people go out of their way to read. As such, you get a more discerning reader base. By discerning, I speak of ability to smell bullshit.
I would expect a well-trained conservative to now ask me what proof I have that Fox is right-biased. To these people I would say, “Go do three minutes of your own research instead of asking me to pull links out of the air, thanks.”

Fox is MUCH less to the right than either ABC,CBS,NBC,CNN,MSNBC are to the left.
Because all the other media is so slanted left, the perspective is completely lost.
Rasmussen poll LAST WEEK …. unaffiliated voters by a 53 percent to 10 percent margin see reporters trying to help Obama over McCain…. That’s 5-1!!! FIVE TO ONE think the media is trying to get Obama elected. And you’re calling Fox News biased? PULEASE!

Okay, I read the article you were referring to. Here’s a quote from it.
“Interestingly, while 83% of Republican voters think most reporters are trying to help Obama, 19% of Democrats agree, one percentage point higher than the number of Democrats who believe they are trying to help McCain.”
So if we look at what this says…
- 83% of polled republicans think the media is biased in favor of Obama
- 82% of polled democrats think the media is biased in favor of McCain
This information is basically worthless. It tells us that people in both parties see their candidate as a martyr in some way. We see what we want to see.
You point out that 53% of “unaffiliated” polled voters see it as biased in favor of Obama. Who cares? To be frank, you cannot be aware of what’s happening in the political landscape without having some sort of opinion about it. Whether they consider themselves affiliated or not, they have predilections.
If you have some sort of solid way of indicating that the news outlets you emntioned are pro-Obama, I’d love to see it. I can tell you right now that Viacom (owner of CBS) is heavily invested in McCain. Google it. Maybe do some research about the rest while you’re at it, since you apparently feel compelled to make baseless claims.

crenshaw, the New York Times thinks they are biased…..

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. National media ALL are in the same Obama boat.
Media was all over Enron and MCI to see which Republicans could be linked with them….Fannie and Freddie gave HUGE contributions, mostly LEFT, and NOTHING from the media. Obama employees 2 of Fannie’s CEO’s that ran it into the ground and NOT A PEEP from the media. It’s absurd how many people are doing COMMENTARY on a NEWS channel. The lines are blurred to the point, we can’t tell the difference between fact, and their fantasy.
